President of Mansoura University honors the research team who discovered the fossil "Tutcetus", King of the Whales

On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Prof. Cherif Khater - President of Mansoura University honored the research team at Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center.

In the presence of Prof. Osama El-Ayyan, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Hisham Mohamed Salam, founder of Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center, and Dr. Heba El-Desouki, Director of the Center. The research team was honored for the discovery and recording of the fossil of the " Tutcetus ", the king of whales, estimated to be 41 million years old. The team recently published the research in the International Nature magazine.

Prof. Cherif Khater, expressed his pride in what has been announced, he said that the new discovery represents a new scientific superiority in the field of paleontology, that’s why Mansoura University is unique among universities locally and in the Middle East, that  puts the university in a distinguished position in scientific discoveries in the field of paleontology, besides publishing in international journals adds to the university and to Egypt a new scientific position in an important field of science.

The members of the research team were honored, which includes: Prof. Hisham Mohamed Salam, founder of Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center, Prof. Mohamed Sameh Antar, member of the Board of Directors of the Center, and Dr. Abdullah Gohar, member of the research team.

The members of the research team and the Salam Lab team were also honored at Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center in view of the scientific contributions and discoveries that were published during the last period in major international scientific journals:
